I think the tattoo ‘another lost child’ represents children suffering to the gang violence as when hearing the photographers life involved gangs. It’s a mix of metaphors and physical things. Physically because it may mean that the child has been killed and metaphorically as it could be simply being lost at making a decision of either living a gang free life or be with trouble.

I think he got the tattoo after being stabbed to show He suffered the loss of possibly a relative or someone close. It may also symbolise making a decision for as after being stabbed.. . If making it through the gang expect him back however he may feel like ending it there as realising when in hospital and spending time with the gang his life is always a risk and on the line.
