heat energy is transferred by convection because: convection is caused by kinetic energy, it happens due to the vibration of particles heating up a fluid with a result of less dense materials rising. The state that convection is most effective is with liquids. For convection to take place there must be fluids which is why Convection doesn’t occur in a vacuum because there isn’t anything in a vacuum so fluids may not be heated to rise less denser materials. The states of matter that convection can take place in are only liquids and gases.
